Hydrogen

WSP works with clients around the world to develop low-carbon hydrogen production processes, localized hydrogen generation and distribution networks, and hydrogen storage facilities. We are able to assemble a global team of subject matter experts to help meet the technical and financial requirements for producing, distributing, and storing hydrogen. Our global experience in relation to the hydrogen economy includes supporting the development of a hydrogen production facility, delivering an integrated hydrogen and carbon capture project, and supporting the development of hydrogen storage caverns.

Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS)

WSP’s project delivery capabilities across the CCUS chain include advisory services, engineering design, geological feasibility studies, UIC Class I through VI permitting, reservoir modeling, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) studies, and program and construction management. We provide services to our clients wherever they need targeted expertise. WSP offers cost and performance advisory services to government entities looking to support full-chain CCUS projects, and we provide support to private and PPP developers working with various state and federal regulatory agencies to secure projects needing proof of carbon capture technology readiness. We bring multidisciplinary technical skills, an understanding of carbon capture technology integration for topside engineering of new and existing plants, and a commitment to developing lasting technical solutions. WSP offers local knowledge regarding the planning and implementation of diverse technologies that can lead to a more sustainable environment. We have worked in various regions around the world in the effort to decarbonize our energy infrastructure; in the U.S., we are involved with a number of important new CCUS projects in their planning stages that include either carbon offset programs or IRS 45Q tax credits for subsurface carbon sequestration, including direct storage or EOR.

Electrification

WSP is working with policymakers and fleet operators around the world to achieve the goal of carbon-free mobility through the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and battery electric fleets. Our experts apply innovative technologies and smart design solutions to reduce fleet emissions as part of an overall decarbonization strategy. We consider the role of resilience on site microgrids, including stationary battery storage solutions. We also specialize in the design of high-performance, resource-efficient, all-electric buildings that respond to the needs and well-being of occupants. We are involved in the design of new buildings and the renovation of existing buildings, with a focus on minimizing environmental and ecological impacts.

Renewable Energy

WSP offers technical expertise in a wide range of renewable energy technologies, including solar, onshore and offshore wind, waste-to-energy, hydropower and battery energy storage systems (BESS). We have provided engineering design and owner's engineer services on solar projects throughout the U.S. and abroad, supporting clients at all stages of project development from feasibility studies through design and construction management. We provide technical and project management services for both onshore and offshore wind energy projects, bringing extensive experience in energy assessments, detailed engineering design, owner’s and lender’s engineering services, and environmental studies. Our hydropower team has decades of experience providing solutions to unique and challenging projects; we have provided FERC safety, design, engineering, construction management and operation and maintenance services on dams, hydropower systems and other water-retaining structures across North America and around the world. We also provide detailed engineering and engineer-of-record services for battery energy storage projects at the transmission and distribution levels, as well as integration with renewable energy generating facilities.
