Colorita® & Salt Lake®
Day 2

Sustainability is here to stay. People no longer considered it an option or a choice, but a must. Not only is sustainability integrated further into our lives, but consumers are also expecting more and more that the plants they buy are produced in a responsible manner and are beneficial to our eco-system. This day, we tell you more about the sustainable and bee-friendly character of our Colorita® and Salt Lake®.

Bee-friendly

Bee-friendly is a trend, but is every plant melliferous? We can confidently say our Colorita® and Salt Lake® plants are! Why? Let us explain!

Due to the amount of nectar and pollen, our Colorita® varieties are definitely favourable plants for bees. The visible nectar guidelines on the petals lead the bees towards the source of their food, while the open flower shape provides them easy access and protection from the wind.

Butterfly favourite

Salt Lake® is a true butterfly favourite due to several reasons, namely:

Salt Lake®: A plant with a memorable yet sustainable story

What makes Salt Lake® truly unique, are its ‘salt crystals’. The plant is a halophyte, which means that it excretes salts through its leaves. This salt sparkles like crystals when the sun shines on it. But that’s just the nice appearance; if we take a look into the future, we understand that this property of excreting salts could be a valuable asset.

No one can say for sure what the future holds, but experts predict that the soil in certain regions continues to become more saline. This means that the groundwater is salty, making it much harder to grow crops on the land above. Salt-tolerant plants like Salt Lake® thrive on salty soils. Combined with its low energy impact cultivation, this contributes to the sustainable and environmentally friendly character of Salt Lake®.

Other pollinator insects such as bees also love Salt Lake® for its nectar, as well as for the high amount of pollen that are a great source of protein for the larvae.

Pot Chrysanthemum
Day 3

Join Tjomme on his digital tour through our pot chrysanthemum green house, while he shows you some of our favourites, must-haves and new varieties.

Garden centre inspiration

Chrysanthemums definitely earn a year-round spot in garden centres and stores if you ask us. There is a colour for every season. And don’t forget pot chrysanthemums can be placed both inside and outside. They can take up temperatures from 5-25°C.

Surprise your customers with chrysanthemums

Did you know there are more than just the three basic chrysanthemum colour mixes and basic coloured daisy types? We have created a complete virtual co-creation centre with inspiration tailored to the needs of the retailer. From small florist shops to garden centres, from spring to fall, and from summer to winter, the chrysanthemum is always a good choice.

Garden Mums
Day 4

Mum-specialist

Royal Van Zanten can call itself a Mum specialist. In addition to pot and cut chrysanthemum, a wide range of garden mums (or also known as cushion chrysanthemums) is offered under the name Multiflora.

Thanks to intensive breeding and extensive tests worldwide, there is always a series for your specific wishes. There is our new compact Milkshake® series for indoor cultivation, Skyfall® for hanging baskets, Baby Mum® for growing in small pots or packs, Tribeca series for early flowering or Blomsky for extra late flowering.

All varieties are tested in multiple climate zones. We do not only make selections based on ornamental value, but also disease sensitivity, transportability and shelf life. This way we can advise you which series is most suitable for your conditions and market.

Aster Showmakers®
Day 6

With a name like Showmakers®, you’d better have something to show for it. If you ask us, this double-flowered aster series really steals the show. No wonder there’s a peacock on its logo. Its packed-with-petals flowers in blues and violets make it a real eye-catcher. On its own, in a large pot for the terrace, or in combination with other plants.

In the following video, our Area Manager Tjomme invites to our breeding green house and tells you more about the story behind our aster series Showmakers®.

Where others stop blooming...Showmakers® continues to flourish!

The Aster Showmakers® is a real diva. With the proper attention and care, we can guarantee you a plant with a beautiful, long-lasting flower display: a plant that meets the high standards for quality that we at Royal Van Zanten set for our products.

Bellevardia®
Day 7

How did it happen that a plant was named after a famous personal physician to the court of Louis XIII in the seventeenth century? Why was this plant so highly appreciated in the Jardin du Paris, the famous botanical gardens near Paris co-founded by this very same physician, Charles Bouvard? Had the court’s physician fallen in love with the typically delicate, petite flowers of this native South American plant? Or was it because this plant – the Bouvardia – retained its beauty for so long without requiring much care? By now, who can tell?

What we definitely do know is that the Bouvardia is at its most beautiful from May to October. And she is so pretty that we named our pot bouvardia series: Bellevardia®.

Throughout its lengthy flowering period, each variety in our Bellevardia® series produces gorgeous clusters of characteristic small flowers in one of a range of bright colours. Bellevardia® guarantees to add a touch of charm (sweet, happy, delicate) to your living room.

More information about this special and unique plant in the Royal Van Zanten assortment as well as tips for providing your Bellevardia® with the best care possible are available at www.bellevardia.com.

The five reasons to add Showmakers® to your product range!

#5

The must-have in every garden

#4
Long flowering period; the entire (late) summer
#3

Appealing colour palette in blue-violet shades

#2

Colour explosion due to the large and double flowers

#1

The double flowered asters catch the eye

A gathering of multiple florets containing a large amount of nectar and pollen that is easily accessible for butterflies.

The striking blue and white colour pattern of the flowers makes them easy to spot in flight.

The fact that Salt Lake® incessantly flowers from early summer till temperatures drop in the autumn, makes it a continuous source of food for butterflies, which they need to survive.

Choose a fresh colour palette for Spring with crisp white flowers or pick yellow flowers for Easter.

Turn up the colours or even go bold and pick only bi-coloured varieties for those summery garden parties.

An Indian summer palette with warm colours is perfect for Fall.

Combine the fresh greens, jolly reds and snow white colours to create a X-mas table for the Winter times. You can even spice up the Chrysanthemums by adding some sparkles if you like to be a bit extra during the festive season!

Milkshake™ The compact garden mum series

Our new Milkshake™ varieties have bubbling colours, a compact habit and form a true family.

Why growers and their customers choose Milkshake™
1
All Milkshake™ colours are mutations of a single variety, so they have a similar growth cycle and develop uniform plants that flower at the same time.
2
They need little or no growth regulation and have a response time of about 6 weeks. This makes growing these beauties even more attractive.
3
Milkshake™ chrysanthemums are suited for darkened cultivation, which provides perfectly programmable availability for retail sales.
4
Their compact plant shape helps save on transportation costs.
5
The flowers open up gradually. This provides a longer sales window and allows consumers to enjoy the flowering plants for a longer period in the garden.
